Strike Action Steps Ups
Guernsey Post confirms that national strike action across the UK postal network will take place on Friday 6 November and Monday 9 November 2009 after on-going talks between Royal Mail and CWU so far failed to reach a resolution.
This next round of action will consist of two 24hr stoppages affecting all parts of the network, including both collections and deliveries, so it is expected to have a greater impact than previous industrial action.
‘We are currently working with Royal Mail on our contingency plans as this action will inevitably see an increase in disruption to mail services, and a further update will be issued later this week,’ said Boley Smillie, Operations Director. ‘In the meantime, we urge customers to post as early as possible.’
In the meantime, Guernsey Post is continuing to advise customers as follows:
- Post as early as you can to avoid being caught up in the strike action;
- Mail despatched up to and including Wednesday 4th November 2009 should not be affected;
- Royal Mail is continuing to recommend customers to use the Special Delivery service for time-sensitive items. However, although this service will continue to be given priority, there remains the possibility that Royal Mail may withdraw its next working day delivery guarantee at any time. We are closely monitoring the mail coming into the island, including the Special Delivery service, against delivery targets and will keep customers informed should there be any deterioration in this service.
- Parcelforce items will not be affected by the strike action.
