Guernsey Post has announced that it will be commencing a five day week (Monday-Friday) delivery service from Monday 26th March 2012.
The move follows a decision made by the States of Guernsey last October to reduce the Universal Service Obligation from a six to a five day delivery week.
George Jennings, Director of Operations, at Guernsey Post said:
"Our last standard Saturday delivery will be taking place on 24th March. However, we have taken on board customer feedback and I'm pleased to announce that we are going to be extending our time-definite packet and parcel service to include Saturday deliveries. This means that our customers will still have the option to receive their packets and parcels on a Saturday - a service that continues to grow in demand."
By removing standard deliveries on a Saturday, Guernsey Post will be saving in the region of £400,000 per annum. A saving that is necessary to help offset the continuing decline in traditional mail volumes.
"To ensure that our customers are prepared for our new five day week service, we will shortly be sending out a household information leaflet to everyone in the Bailiwick." added Mr Jennings.
