Franking

Self franking and posting

Metered franking is the easy, flexible way to pay your postage as and when needed, giving you freedom to manage your business mail more efficiently. It can be used to pay for all local, UK, Special Delivery, Recorded Delivery and overseas letter mail.

With this service you need your own franking machine, registered with Guernsey Post and given a licence number.

  • Customers with metered franking machines must follow our franking guidelines
  • Check the franking impression at the start of each day.

  • Pre-sort mail into categories, i.e. Bailiwick, UK, Jersey, International.

  • Set the machine pricing according to the weight/service of each item. Underpaid mail is subject to a 50p surcharge plus twice the underpaid amount.

  • Bundle mail for despatch (20 to 50 items) by category with franking impression in top right-hand corner.

  • Place mail in coloured pouches from Smith Street or Envoy House branches: Bailiwick Mail blue; UK and Jersey Mail red; International Mail white.

  • Take pouches to any Guernsey Post branch before final collection times.

  • Hand priority items including Special Delivery items directly to staff (not in pouches).

  • Please note:
  • Stamped mail must not be put in a mail pouch and franked mail cannot be put in a pillar box.
  • Claims for overpaid or unused franking impressions can be made by returning envelopes, wrappers or stickers to our Finance Department within six months of the franking date.
  • A 5% administration charge applies to all refunds.
